Smetana Ma Vlast: Vltava; From Bohemia's meadows and forests
Bruch Violin Concerto No.1
Dvorák Symphony No.8
Bruch's passionate, gypsy-themed show-piece is one of the most popular violin concertos of all time and tonight it is performed by the young British violinist, Charlie Siem, "...a player of remarkable promise" (BBC Music Magazine). Dvorák's pastoral Eighth Symphony is as delightful as any Bohemian rhapsody, with its snatches of birdsong, scenes of rustic gaiety and celebratory fanfares. Libor Pešek, has recorded the complete Symphonies to great critical acclaim: "Pešek shapes Dvorák's melodies with great subtlety: his ability to achieve fine-grained orchestral phrasing is unrivalled among contemporary conductors" (International Record Review). The concert opens with Smetana's musical tribute inspired by the landscape, nature and rural life of his home country.
